Workshop: Obscuring Text In Your Artwork
Start Time: 18:00 on Zoom
Please register here
In this workshop, artist Ana Hine will demonstrate painting techniques you can use to obscure text within your work. These techniques can be used to discuss traumatic memories or events in a way that avoids traumatising the viewer. Automatic writing, abstract painting, and subconscious exploration will be used to create art pieces that are cathartic for the artist, while allowing the viewer to maintain a level of distance from the content. Using obscuring techniques avoids the need for content warnings, which are not always possible or effective in a group exhibition setting or on social media. With some techniques the artist themselves will be able to forget the trauma explored in the work, thus providing a level of protection for the artist's own psyche.
Ana Hine used these techniques to work through a miscarriage she experienced during her masters degree. Visit her artist's website for more info at anahineart.wordpress.com.
